Diving in Cairns and sailing cruises

Environmental Initiatives

  • Fish feeding – The company supports the correct way to feed fish. Only GBRMPA approved fish food stock is allowed.
  • Grey water – Grey water is not released at the reef.
  • Cleaning agents – All cleaning agents are biodegradable. The company makes an effort to locate and source the best such products. Bleach is rarely used, and never at the reef.
  • Hull Cleaning – Passions of Paradise has no anti-fouling paint under the hulls. Instead, it uses a hydraulic machine and cleans the hulls weekly. The machine and the technique is at the forefront of environmentally sensitive cleaning and something that the company is proud of.
  • Reef protection - In speeches and briefs, passengers are told never to stand on the reef, hold it or touch it. Scuba divers are told the same.
  • Crown-of-thorns – The company has a permit for the eradication of the crown-of-thorn starfish, and the crew quickly remove any found on the reef.
